Makini Sports Department has a wide range of both indoor and outdoor sports for our students. The department nurtures talent and through that they have been able to have the best teams in very many sporting activities as part of the Sports Academy, in-house competitions and inter-school competitions. Founded in January 2009, the Makini Sports Academy (MSA) is a Not-For-Profit organization that seeks to promote, nurture and create opportunities for the holistic development of sports in the country. Makini School actively participates in Drama and Music. The school has an active band that performs in most events both within and outside the school. Our Drama and Music clubs have participated upto National level and won awards due to the great talent that is within Makini School.
Art & Design is open to any interested child who desires to venture into Visual Arts and may sit for it at O level or pursue it as a future career. Apart from the established academic programme, we encourage the Art students to take part in Art contests, symposiums, exhibitions and field trips. This is done with a view to enhance the children’s creative abilities and to nurture an appreciation for the role of Art in day-to-day human activities. Last year - 2016, the FunKe Science programme was pursued at the Makini Junior Academy. It was featured in the BBC Horizon show. Next term, the programme is coming to Makini Ngong Rd. Campus! Makini Schools are environmentally friendly spaces, providing serene environments for students to learn. As a school, the learning atmosphere is a contributor to the students ability to concentrate and their sense of social responsibility for their surroundings. This is overlooked by the Environment Club which has taken on a number of initiatives from tree-planting to cleaning the Kirichwa River which divides the Lower and Upper section of Makini School’s mother campus. The Makini Gifted and Talented department has seen many of our students access the opportunity to identify and nurture their exceptional abilities. The school has collaborated with organizations as Stadi Za Maisha on enrichment programmes for the gifted and talented. In one instance, we had two academically outstanding students, Finnic Otieno and Melissa Kedenge, attend the John Hopkins - Centre for Talented Youth summer 2014 programme. Other pupils have received secondary school scholarships at the prestigious Choate Rosemary Hall school in Connecticut.
