This year it took place on March 11th by secret ballot, and was covered by media such as KTN’s Kiboko Club.
The election to the student council is a great event in the middle school. Students divide themselves according to the candidate they prefer. Campaigns are done by students themselves. Speeches are made. There is a sense of the regular ‘election fever’.
The class teachers acted as presiding officers in their respective classes while the scouts acted as the polling officers. Each student was given a ballot paper with the names and pictures of the candidates. The students were to tick-mark the names of one candidate and cast the ballot paper into the ballot-box. The ballot-boxes of each class were taken to the tallying room. The votes were counted and the results declared. The President and Deputy President results were declared first.
Samuel Kiprotich of class 5 polled the highest votes. He became the President. Shirlean Mboya of class 4 became the Deputy President.
The elections were fair and free. There were no quarrels. All the students showed a high sense of discipline. School elections are very useful. They infuse in the students a sense of responsibility and the values of citizenship. They prepare them for bigger roles in their country.
