This occasion is always special as it is an event which offers the chance for the school and parents to reflect on the highlights of the year and also to award the outstanding performance of our students.
The event was graced by Guest of Honour Mr. Christopher Khaemba, County Executive for Urban Planning and Lands for Nairobi City County.
PTA Chairman Mr. Patrick Keta encouraged our students to ‘’Continue being disciplined, love yourselves and no one should take away your dignity,’’ upon which he began singing the timeless song” Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston in highlighting the theme of loving yourself and the children as the future. Mr. Keta further quoted Dr. Martin Luther King in saying, “If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say’ Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Khaemba emphasized the aspect of technological advancement and the need for individuals as well as institutions not to be left behind. He also urged students not to be afraid to go for opportunities no matter how many times they might fail, referring to prominent individuals such as Bill Gates, President Barack Obama, Dr. Mary Okelo and Nelson Mandela among others, who had a passion for what they did and went for it.
Makini Schools Executive Director Dr. Okelo gave her annual address. She appreciated parents for the well -behaved children. Dr. Okelo expressed her gratitude to the Heads of Departments, Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff for the excellent work they are doing. She gave a special thanks to the 2015 candidates for their outstanding performance in the K.C.P.E examinations.
The Prize categories awarded were 1,2,3, Most Improved, School activities, Most Disciplined, Best Handwriting in the year and Top in Class.
All’s well that ends well and we now know that the PTA Chairman has a voice to reckon with!
